Loosing my friend

Anyone else have to wrestle just to get here to post?

Yesterday was a strange day.
Started out doing some yoga, even got hunny giving it a try. She use to do it quite a bit, classes and such. But with all that has been going on here she stopped. We started following something online, the frustration started as she could not hear and was rushing from worrying about messing up. Having all this time together has made it where I can tell when she starts to feel overwhelmed. She really starts to panic.
So we stopped that and went to work on sun salutation, a easy sequence.
I was trying to calm her down and get her to breathe, when she went into a full blown panic attack. The rapid breathing and crying and shaking. I am like WTF "how come your panicking?" she said " I am afraid, I could not remember what we just did"
I am getting this out here because I need to. I believe that my cancer and all that went with it has hurt my wife more than me. I think the stress and strain has changed her, possibly forever. I fear so much I am loosing her, she is not the woman she was a few years ago, she was never afraid of anything. Now she is afraid with me in our living room. She says this happens to her at work, a lot. There she runs and hides. My psychiatrist is going to see her soon I sure hope she can help Helaine, it would suck if my being well came at the price of hunny's happiness   :(

Sorry about that it started flowing.

I have been doing great since the challenge is over. Whats the deal with that???
Two rounds of yoga yesterday. 20 min on the stationary bike.
CF WOD

 Crossfit WOD

A couple of pic's from the Deception pass dash. Todd and I made the run in a boat I built from an old Russian frame I got from some friends. we had Christmas lights and well the balls were blue by the time we got back. Luckily we were the only boat in our class, so we got first and last at the same time.
It was a very good workout around 6 miles with 1/4 of it against some fair current. The race is set up so the faster you are the less current you have to fight. They base the ratings on the boats length to width, a slow sea kayak is around 9:1. I worked it out for our boat it hit just over 6.5:1, yes we worked way too hard.
Our time was 1:18 minutes about at the speed I run.

This was Turkey day. My first running race ever, have to say I had a blast. Was a bit nervous never having ran with other people before. It was interesting trying to bob and weave through the crowd, took my time and did not plow into anyone :) Once out of the start and up the first hill it started to thin out a bit. I noticed who was going the same speed and found a couple with a stroller to keep pace with.
After about a mile or so legs loosened up and I started to pick people off, till I found the next marker for me.
A couple of young ladies half my age, stayed with them till a little bit of a up hill. Held my pace till we got to the bottom of the down hill. ( note it was 2 miles down hill then 1 mile up hill to the finish)
This is where I went after the guys that were my size that had been close to all the way. I knew I wanted to keep a steady pace and not blow up on the hill. So I did my down shift into low gear and started chugging, slowly the big guys started to crash and pull over to walk. I tried to keep the breath steady, man that hill was working me. About half way up all these people started to pass me, held my pace then realized it was the teammates of the people that were crashing getting on with their race.
I am getting near the top of the hill, lungs are bursting and legs are going WTF are we doing. When I start to get passed by all these little kids, I mean they were flying by me. Good thing it did not bother me too much, I got over that as I have been passed by lots of 3' tall munchkins ripping it up on the ski slopes, same thing. Later figured it out they were running the 1 mile course that fed into the 5k near the end.
Ok made the hill down into the parking lot for the finish. No one is going any faster than they were up the hill, screw this. I open it up as much as I had left, bet I passed 25 people in the last 150'.  Ran through the finish without killing anyone, walked out the back side till I caught my breath. Hunny and the friends that came to cheer found me. It was awesome to see the smiles on their faces, they were so happy for me which made me very happy as well.
My first race was just too much fun. Yeppers there are more on the way.

8-22-11

Ok, the PLP is getting to be no funand I am only half way there. Not really it is not too bad it is all the other stuff I do with it. Like 100 45 lbs KB and 26 burpees today. So 30 was the count for the PLP.

I changed tactics to make it a bit easier.
10-Kb 10 burpees 10 pull ups
10 KB 10 lunges 10 push ups
10 KB 10 burpees 10 pull ups
10 KB 10 lunges
10 KB 10 push ups
10 KB 6 burpees
10 Kb 10 pull ups
10 KB 10 lunges
10 KB 10 push ups
10 KB
It is not that much eaiser. I then did a very Baby "Isabelle" 30 snatches with 65 lbs in 2:13 Should of gone heavier, next time I will do the girls weight :)

I have been getting in more protein, I was feeling very drained. I am happy with the weight loss. I want to go a bit farther with it, then worry if I have lost any muscle. I don't think I have, just not much endurance.

Make this a great week.

8-20-11

Well, I went out this morning to get in my Kb's and burpees in. I have to say this was the first time I believe I bonked. I had not ate since 4 pm the day before, I could tell while out there. The last 50 KB's just killed me. I broke the up way too much, I actuall thought about not getting in my 100. I pushed through it.

I have been remodling part of the kitchen this week. So when not working out I am doing that. I hate waiting for mud to dry.

6-ish got out and hit my PLP 28 reps today. I have to say lunges are way easier with out the wall ball and back pack with weight. Almost like cheating :) After 30 will be back at the extra weight.

Hope you have a super weekend.

8-17-11

I decided to break up some of the excersizes I have been doing, they were getting too much. So today I got out early and did the KB's and burpees. 50 KB's then 16 burpees, then finished up the 50 other KB's. I had to break up the last 50, got to 35 then break.

At lunch I got out and ran 3.6 miles. Legs felt like crap, they did not want to work at all. They started to feel better around mile 1. It was not the fastest run but I did get it in.

Then after dinner I went out and did 25 reps of PLP. So glad I get to drop the pack tomorrow. Might be easier on me tomorrow, I hope.

Have a great day tomorrow.

Typical breakfast- veggies and turkey bacon. It was from yesterday. This morning was PB and banana wrap. Dinner was wild salmon with asparagus wrapped with prosciutto, with corn on the side.

I really hate plumbing!!!!!!!!!!!

Between changing out three electrical boxes to one and plumbing in for the ice machine it took 5 hours. Do you know how much water squirts out while your running from the valve 150' away? Do that a couple of times and when hunny got home I was pretty pissy.

I went out at 7:10 to get in my 100 KB, 14 burpee's, 24 PLP. Man the lunges turn's my legs to jello. I leave quite the puddle on the mat.
On to tomorrow!

8-15-11

Nothing much going on today. I have been remodel all day. Coated a bedroom, reframed the entry to our bedroom. Then got the rock up on all but one wall in the kitchen.

I timed my warm up today 19:02
100 KB @ 40 lbs
12 burpees
23 reps of PLP with weights in pack.

I then did back squats 1-1-1-1-1-1-1 I topped out at 205, not a lot but I felt pretty good with it. I should be up at 265-270, I will get back up there.

8-14-11

Well I missed posting yesterday. Not much new, KB's, burpees and PLP then into push jerk from behind the head. 1-1-1-1-1-1-1. Not much of a jerk more like push presses. I can't get my knee's to bend to get under the bar. I got up to 150 lbs. I was done after that.

Today, I got up early and got in a nice 2 mile run. Then spent the rest of the day working on the house. I got the closet framed up and the room hung and taped. That leaves only a little corner of the kitchen to rock and I will have replaced every piece of wall in our house.

I did get in my Kb's--100 burpees--10 PLP--22 after the second set of KB's I then put on the pack with 15lbs in it. Man o man, doing the lunges with the pack and the wall ball overhead is plain mean.

I hope you have a great week ahead of you all. Give it your best.

8-11-11

Linner: left over veggies with mushrooms and chicken.

I then added these chicken sausages, I fake it a lot with food. This one worked really good.

Today haul from the garden. Two nice red cabbage and our first spaghetti squash, it is a really good thing we like the squash because we will have a lot. Probably 20+ growing on the vine right now.

This pic shows the spaghetti squash growing out of the green house.

Today was a good day.
I started with 20 KB swings--
my 4 burpees--
20 KB--
19 pull ups--
20 KB--
19 lunges--
20 KB--
19 push ups--
20 KB--
This got a good sweat going.

I took 5 minutes then set up the deadlift @ 185
The crossfit workout of the day was,
as many rounds as you can do in 12 minutes.
400 meter run
5 DL
I got in 4 full rounds @ 11:58 I gotta tell you this was my first runs since doing in my back. So it was quite the test for my back, I was gasping for air after the runs but I made sure I set myself for the DL. Could I have gone heavier? Maybe, could I have been done for a few weeks as well, sure. So great choice on my part.

Hope you all had a productive day as well.

8-10-11

This mornings pic.

At the end of the 7 day mini. 6 lbs difference from then to now.

Started the 52DC today. Lots of stuff going on around here. I am seeing a phycologist, hoping to get me out of my funk, time to get on with life. Dr has me on wellbutrin it has really helped me.

I have not lifted since I threw out my back during the last 52DC. It feels really good. Todays workout started with
20 Kb @ 35 lbs--
2 burpees--
20 KB--
PLP 18 pull ups (no extra weights) I had used a backpack with 15 lbs in it to do my PLP up to 15 reps. I will go back to the backpack @ 20 reps.
20 KB--
18 lunges (these I do with my 18.8 lbs wallball overhead. I do these also with the backpack, so I did these with 34 extra lbs with the pack.
20 KB--
18 push ups (I start wide, then bring them in as I get tired) W/backpack too.
20 KB--

Then on to front squats. Nothing impressive but I did them and could walk after. Started @ 115x3-- 125x3-- 130x3-- 135x3-- Started to fall forward in the squat so called it good.

Food: Onions, bell and sweet peppers, spinach and ham. Eggs were on the side, 4 of them. Steak and some beans and 1+ cups of mixed veggies, for dinner.
After doing the 7 day mini our eating has changed, we eat twice a day now. Breakfast is later in the morning 8-10 ish. Dinner has been early for a while, before my wife goes to work, 4-4:30. Snacking has disappeared all together, no dairy and the only wheat I have is a wrap, PB and banana for breakfast, twice a week.

So since the last challenge I have lost 15 lbs. I am going to work very hard to keep it going.

Not a bad first day.

7-31-11

My after pic, I do not see much of a change. I did loose 9 lbs and 1 1/4 inch off my belly, at 45" start it is hard to see much change. Started @ 240 231 for a finish.

Carson and papa watching the crossfit games.

Last days breakfast.

The rest are some shots from our trip through central Oregon. Sleeping under the stars was very cool. Last time we slept in the back of a truck was 25 years ago, Janruary in Mexico, man was it cold then. Three kids and three+ grandkids later it was one of the best nights we have had together in a long time.

7-25-11

Dinner: spaghetti squash, brussel sprouts, green beens and a tiny piece of meat. LOL
Thought it would be tough to just have that little bit, but ended up being very full from the squash. It turned out really good, baked with a little butter and salt n pepper.
I better stop this or hunny will think I like cooking :)

Breakfast: peppers, onions, tomatoes and spinach with scrambled eggs.
Lunch: big salad. Both of these are a norm around here.

Headache lasted till around 10-ish this morning, then vanished for the day. My bet it is from no coffee. Well that is what I am going with.

Day 2 of the PLP. I put 20 lbs in a backpack, not happening, could only get half way up with the band. Dropped it down to 10, it made it work getting my chin up over the bar. Did the lunges with my wall ball, a bit tougher. I took my push ups to as far as I can reach. I can tell the burpees really helped with push ups.

Felt a bit tired today, of course it looked like a nice fall day here, might of bummed out the day some.
Have a great day.

7-24-11

We will see if anyone can notice a change.

Top on is lunch. Bottom was breakfast, a bit wierd roasting breakfast stuff but it was good.

Some pic's of my daughters family trying kayaks for the first time.
A pretty good day, felt fine for most of it. Headache is going pretty strong right now. Nothing to do but chug along.

7-23-11

This is all the veggies we bought today.

I am sooooo bad at this.
Finished up the challenge, back out of wack and not having ran in two weeks. not really how I thought it would go. I did let stuff start to get to me, it is dragging me down.
So hopefully this mini challenge will get me going in the right direction.
I think the first days breakfast will be tough after that it will be like normal, most of the time it is veggie omelet with some protien.
We will see how it goes. Measurements and pic's in tomorrows post.

6-16-11

Well today was the day, I finished up the couch to 5k program. My last run was 3.6 miles in 32 minutes. Felt like a good run. I then got in my 32 burpees, might have to shift them to their own workout. They are taking a toll as a warm up or after a run. Still hitting them undroken.
Time to find a race to do. There is a race in October but it is a half, for a good cause. A mom who lost her son, he commited suicide when he came back from war. She is working to keep other soldiers from the same fate, very worthy cause. The local running store has a training prgrom set up 50.00 for 15 weeks of training. 50.00 for the race, I figure I could sign up and be happy even if I don't get to run the race. 13.1 sounds like a very big number right now, but in October who knows. I think the training would be worth the money easily.

6-14-11

Well, I finally did it, I broke down and went to a real running store for shoes.
Really glad I did, very friendly full of info that I really needed to know. So I ended up with a pair of light weight trail runners, 9 oz each.
Well, then I needed to take them for a run. With the way the treadmill was acting up I decided to try my normal 5k run outside. When I walked it the other day it killed my sinuses, scotch broom was in full bloom. Pretty but killed any chance of breathing through my nose.
So from our driveway to the turn around and back is 3.6 miles. I took the first 1/2 mile for my warm up. From there it is a up hill start on the road till I hit the state land, which changes to a logging road. There is a hill in the middle of the run, well it is up to the middle then down the other side.
I started @ 6 pm. With warm up, the 5k and 28 burpees when I got back home, 47 minutes total. It felt very good, I am ready for a real run. I will pick one soon, as to keep the momentum going.
Hope you had a great day.

BRUTAL!!!
All I can say about the whole weekend. I do have to say Those Crossfit women are tough as frickin nails. They never stopped, shredded hands, weights I could not pull and a shit load of work. Very stout work.

Saturday in our area after each round looked like a bad day in a hospital room, blood and gloves all over the place. There were pools of blood and chunks of flesh on the equipment, nasty stuff. Hard core stuff.

With me, well the weekend pretty much hosed me with my food. Not enough and not at the right time. No where near enough water, so up one pound this week for the 5%.
back on track today, well after I rest for today. All I have planned is burpees day 13 so 26 today. Not sure if they are getting tough yet as I have been doing them after I got home at night. So tired, I would robot through them so I could eat after.

Think I am gonna go nap. Have a great day.

6-9-11

Yesterday was a funky day.
I got in my burpees in not too bad. I started my week 9 day 2 run, 15 min in everytime my foot hit the belt it stopped a bit. I thought it might be my crappy shoes, so changed up to my VFF's. Still the exact same problem, so I called it because it was getting to my back. I then got in the WOD.
2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2 push jerk
95-115-120-125-130-135-140-145-150-155F

Today Thursday, I was helping out setting up the gear for the games. OH man, lot like work. Lots of lifting and moving steel plates, bolting more stuff on them then moving them again. Making plywood platforms, it was alot like work. I feel plenty whooped from it. Gonna count it as a RT.
Still have to hit my burpees, as soon as dinner settles.

Tuesday, June 7, 2011

6-7-11

Not much going on today. Hosted for the day, boy I wish I could type faster takes me forever :) It is all good I get to learn more about everyone. Looks like the 5% is really going well for the first week. lots of weight loss.

Legs are a bit fried, have gotten in lots of leg work these last few days. I got in burpee day 7 - 14. Nothing more for the day.

I am hoping to get in more than 4 hours sleep tonight, not getting no where near enough sleep. This weekend I think will be tough. 4 days of Crossfit should be fun.

Monday, June 6, 2011

6-6-11

Today was a full day of workouts,
First off I did my 12 burpees. Then I got in week 9 day 1, my run the other day was a really good day as today it took me 5 minutes longer. Could of been the workout last night that did me in. Then to finish the day I got in a RT, good warm up then worked on snatch balance, never tried them before. Nothing impressive going on there, up to 70 lbs. With a 5x5 on the bench, 135x5 145x5 155x5 160x5 135x14 max reps.

Hosting tomorrow, always fun. I am getting all pumped up for the NW regional games this weekend. Should be a very energizing time, last year was.

Sunday, June 5, 2011

6-5-11

Today started out very slow, then got slower. I fed the pests and watered the garden, then made breakfast. Peppers and mushrooms, with bacon and scrambled eggs. We then drove into town to get a hammock. I want to use it for camping, I set it up in the yard and promptly took a nice nap in it.
I waited till 7 to get my workout in. My 10 burpees, then a good arm warm up.
Todays WOD was
100 pull ups Assisted
100 KB 35 lbs
100 du over the bar jumps
100 ohs I did these with pvc pipe still killed me!!!

26:28

Not a bad way to relax on Sunday.

It really did top off a great day. 3:15 am alarm went off, sort of rolled out of bed.
Put together snacks and breakfast. On the road by 3:55, two hours and a bit and I am standing on the beach. Off shore winds, sun shining and surf. It was low tide so the waves were ripping along, very fast for someone who has not had much time in the boat lately. I got some good rides well more like running for my life :) I got in two sessions then packed the boat and gear up.
Then I went for a run along the path through the sand dunes, it is concrete not the best thing for my joints as all I took with me were my VFF. I measured the run last night with google earth, It said it was close to being 5k, perfect. Legs and joints were very stiff. I did not warm up any, that did not help. I got going slowly, loosened up by the turn around, the trip back felt very good. I did not time it but it felt short, I know there is no way I was moving faster than normal.
When I got home I timed the songs I listened to on it, 21:17. So the run was more like 2 miles maybe a bit more. I am stoked that I got in a outside run, at the beach in the sun in Washington state, a very rare thing.

Yes, I did my burpees on the beach in my dry suite. Warm ups must be rubbing off on me because I spent 10+ min on the beach stretching. Like I said a really great day!!!

6-3-11

For some reason I have not ran my normal run, started on the treadmill and said I was going to finish the C25K on it. Well today was a rest day for me. I did my 6 burpees then took a walk on the trail. Now while I am running most times my nose runs like a baby with a cold, snot and stuff, making it hard to breath. On the walk today it was the same thing, the scotch broom is in full bloom along the entire trail. My nose shut down, which mad me breath through my mouth like I was running. I guess it is going to be a fact of life from now on I will have terrible allergy's. Don't think my sinuses liked what happend last year.

Tomorrow is a trip to the beach. Should be a blast. I am going to try and get in my run there before I have to get home.

6-2-11

I am getting this down before I forget.
Got in my run today, week 8 day 2 of the couch to 5k. I got in some good stretching in, man my hips are sooooo tight. Started good, my splits were 11:15-21:20-30:06 for the finish. I feel pretty good with that time. I have done all of the c25k on the treadmill. Time to reward myself with new shoes.
Then I got in my burpees for the day, 4 for day two. I am kinda pissed, I some how lost the entire month of May's workouts from my log. So maybe this will make me write stuff down in more than one place.
Pre run was a banana and 1/4 cup beef jerky. Breakfast after was whole wheat wrap, peanut butter-2 tbl, banana with strawberries and blue berries on the side.

What was going on as a good day, turned to crap as our middle daughter/pain in the ass has herself in a great big financial hole. As a dad I feel like such a failure, because I cant help her out, we are in a pretty big hole ourselves. It is not that she does not try, she will/can not think out a problem, just dives in and hopes for the best. Sorry, venting.

Any whoooo,
I got in a double today. Rt was another hero WOD

"Moon"

Seven rounds for time of:
40 pound dumbbell Hang split snatch, 10 reps Right arm
15 ft Rope Climb, 1 ascent
40 pound dumbbell Hang split snatch, 10 reps Left arm
15 ft Rope Climb, 1 ascent

Alternate feet in the split snatch sets.

He is survived by his parents Marsha and Brian and sister Sunday.

I did the split snatches, the rope climbs from back to standing two reps for each rope climb. 5 rounds + 20 split snatches time 19:09 The ones with the left arm were becoming dangerous, having a hard time controling them overhead.

6-1-11

First day of the summer challenge.

Today was a good day. This morning my shoulders were still killing me from the other days Murph. I bet it might of been the 200 push ups. Luckily, I have been doing much better about warming up. Fast walk on the treadmill, 2 rounds of box jumps and KB swings 1 pood. Then a good 10 minutes of band stretching on the shoulders.

I got in my 2 burpees, first burpees in almost a year. Not diving into the WOD yesterday, 150 pull ups 150 burpees, was a good idea. Doing it would of took me out for quite a while. Must be getting a little smarter, yeah right.

Then on to the WOD 1-1-1-1-1-1-1 power cleans.
I did some work with the pvc pipe, trying to get my squats to work, not happening. Then on to the empty bar, it is hard for me to work with it. I need to spend way more time with it though.
I started @ 95 worked up to 135 before counting them as lifts for the day. 135-145-155-165 fail-165 fail -145-150-155-160 fail. The pulls were good, felt really good. At 165, I could not get my elbows around fast enough. I wish I would get under the bar, I know this holds me back on a lot of bigger lifts. Need to remember it will take lots of time. I have only really been lifting for 6-7 months over the last year and a half.
I know I am giving it plenty, because around a hour or so after my body it is just shot for a while. Not the muscles but the nervous system, just feel whooped on.

Eats were good. Spinach from our garden, peppers and eggs with chicken sausage for breakfast. Left over sausage and beans for lunch. Green beans and tuna for dinner.
A really good way to start off the challenge.

5-31-11

The day before.
Had Dr. appt, still at once a month. He wants me to have a bone marrow biopsy in a few months. The last one was no fun at all, no meds at the local hospital.

This morning I got in week 8 day 1 of the couch to 5K. 5 min warm up then 2.75 miles in 30:09. I am sure I could get the 5k in, I have been doing it as programed, not going to rush it now. Only 5 more runs till I finish it.
Time to start looking for that first race. I will let you know when I pick one.

I was going to get in another WOD today, but my shoulders are getting worse as the day wears on. So 150 burpees and pull ups would be a very bad idea, I was going to scale but still too sore. I will start up strong tomorrow, two burpees sounds much better right now :P

I am in the 5% challenge but I never do very well with weight loss when trying.
So here are my measurements
neck 16.5
arm 12.5
chest 48.25
waist 46.25
thigh 22
While going through chemo I lost 19" all over and lost and gained 150 lbs. Dropping 40-45 pounds each round. Weight in the morning.

Best of luck on getting to where you want to be at the challenge. Now Go and Get it.

5-30-11

Been a long time again, good thing I do not do this as a job.

Two days away from the start of the 52DC for summer. I kept goals mostly the same as last time. I did add a burpee component, start @ 2 add 2 everyday through all 52 days, last day 104 burpees. Then I saw tomorrows WOD,

Tuesday 110531
For time:
50 Pull-ups
10 Burpees
40 Pull-ups
20 Burpees
30 Pull-ups
30 Burpees
20 Pull-ups
40 Burpees
10 Pull-ups
50 Burpees

Post time to comments.

Is this a sign from above??? 150 burpees and 150 pull ups ouch!
Especially since I did Murphy today,

run 1 mile
100 pull ups
200 push ups
300 squats
run 1 mile. 75:08

Not sure if I will try this tomorrow? But would be a great warm up for those 2 burpees on the first day of the challenge.

Looks like the allergy meds are working, headache's are much less. I am wondering if I am hyper sensitive to them now that they were one of the first signs of the tumor growing in my head. I have decided to try and let them pass as just headache's nothing more. Dr tomorrow for check up, can't wait till we get to move them out to 3 months instead of every month.

Hope you are all ready to rip in to this one?

Yesterday

Well yesterday was the first day in a month and a half that I have not had a headache. It really had me worried, brought back memories of last years start to the spring/summer. It has been 7 days of taking allergy meds, so It looks like that has taken care of the problem.

Yesterday, I also got in week 5 day 1 of the C25K. It felt pretty good, legs are getting much better at keeping loose for the entire runs.

Last night, A friend and I went paddling up in Seattle. I got lots of great comments about how I look. Proof is in the pudding, I saw friends last night I have not seen since my first round of chemo, when sitting upright was a chore. I was carrying my 80 lbs kayak overhead to the water, it is easier when taking it off a tall rig. One of them said "it looks like you are gonna throw it", well I got to the waters edge and chucked it as hard as I could. As it hit the water all turned around, a few said "Hey Dave's back". I also felt good enough to try doing rolls, I heve not rolled in well over a year. So it was a big deal to give it a try. I took my time with the rolls and they felt really great.
All in all it was a great day. I hope you are having the same.

Wow

TOP PIC is Carson David Mottershead New grandson.

I can not believe it has been a month. Where Have I been? I have been a bit withdrawn and scared the last few weeks. I have been having symptoms that remind me of this time last year. My oncologist said he thinks it is allergies, gave me meds for that. We will see if that is the case. The headaches have been getting bad.
It has only been a few days on it, it does seam to be getting better.

No workout today. The back of my left leg feels like it might of pulled it a bit. I was moving all day long outside for the most part. I did some work on the living room. Set up a spot to move the chicks outside. Then took the ribs out of the boat that needs fixing. Decided I would change the shape of the boat, make it more to my liking.

I am posting all of this stuff to show myself I am not lazy and I can do lots of stuff not just what I have been for the last 30 years.
Convince myself I can have things I do not believe I deserve.

Tuesday 4-5-11

Went to the Dr today, to see how the blood work goes. All is good, although he got on me about loosing weight. The belly is going I am happy with the way things are going. I am at 246, before all this started I was in good shape at 230. I could of dropped 15-ish. While going through chemo I dropped down to 203, I looked like death warmed over, very gaunt looking. The only time I looked like a guy with cancer.

Today was a good day. I put a new door on the green house that I built just before going in the hospital, thought it was the last thing I was ever going to do. Sooo glad I was wrong about that.

I did my normal warm up 30 push-pull-dip-squat and sit ups.
Then I got in week 2 day 1 of C25k. Up to 1:30 run at a time. My knees really felt the later rounds. Gonna keep at it though.

Have a great day.

Sunday 4-3-11

Wow, it has been a few days. I have been slacking with this.
Yesterday was week1 day3 of couch 25k. Knees are still acting up. Twisted my right knee today getting up and down the ladder around bushes. Gonna give it a few and then try to workout today. My CT's are going good, need to get going on the Rt's.

I did try max bench yesterday, I got 185 up, tried 190 and had to dump it again. I think using chains on the bar has helped up the weight. It helps with getting more speed of the bottom of the lift. If I can keep adding 10 lbs every 2-3 weeks I have a good chance of hitting 200lbs before the end.

We will see how it goes tonight. Have a great night.

Tuesday 3-29-11

Happy birthday Amy! Our youngest turned 20, so close to being empty nesters waahoo!
For the most part we are and it is so nice and quiet.

Today I started the couch to 5k program. I have done a bit of running before now and it was pretty much the same as the program. A good warm up then 1 min on 60-90 seconds off, do this for 30 min. It went well today, found myself not watching the clock which helps a lot. 8- 1 minute runs, it was a good start.

After dinner I did my warm up 30 push-pull-dip-squat-sit ups. Max thrusters is the WOD. I am putting it off till tomorrow, it would of been a total bust to try. My legs are so sore. So instead I did some bench press work. I put on 25's and went for speed- 95lbs. I have seen people put chains on the bar and I did not understand it till today. It allows the weight to increse as you lift the bar, so I put on two tow chains I have. I think they are 22lbs each. You can really feel the weight as the bar goes up. I pushed for speed the whole time, gonna do more of these.

Have a great day.

Sunday 3-27-11

Figured I would get up a couple of pic's of my workout room. Top one is where I warm up, cuz I can hang my rings. Second is my pile, can't jump so that is why the boxes are buried, hope to get them out soon. My surf kayak is in the back. Third is my homemade squat rack, I have had almost 300 on it to see if it would hold , so far so good. Last one is where I chuck weights around, I have plywood under the stall mats, as I was digging big holes in the ground.

So far today is going good. Got in my warm up 30 push-pull-dip-squat-sit ups. Then the WOD. I did 1/2 mile run- 21 45lbs c-n-j- 1/4 run 21 45lbs c-n-j 1/2 mile run.

Hero workout.

"Abbate" Run 1 mile I did run-ish

Saturday 3-26-11

Made the mistake of not starting the day working out. I made my spinach and tomato omlet, then noticed the micro needed cleaning off. Got the counter cleared off, well might as well regrout the tiles they need sealing. Shit the end cabinet is moving around, long story short almost 12 hours working on the kitchen.
Then I got out for my warm up 30 push-pull-dip-squat-sit ups.

WOD was 255lbs deadlift-- 135 overhead squat REALLY??? 21-15-9 4t
What I did 155 dl-- empty kayak rack bar ohs 12-9-6 4:28

I could not put any weight overhead. Empty I got full range of motion. Yes I did try the empty olimpic bar, my back just locked up and both heels lifted off the ground. The other week I did overhead squats and did better. My back locked up the other day on wallballs. gonna have to give it time.

Our grandson showed up on Friday, Carson David Mottershead. Poor kid, I know a guy with most of that name. I hope he has better luck with it.

Thursday 3-24-11

Do not run on a squat day!!! It does not work, well for me it did not. I did a HIIT run today, 5 min warm up 1 min on 90 sec off till 20 minutes total, so 6 runs. Then I tried to do the WOD of the day. 5 rounds of 20lbs ball cleans 15 reps then 20lbs wall balls 15 reps for time. I was dead and done after 2 rounds, 5:18. Back could not take any more.

Food was
Left over chicken with pork and veggies
meat and cheese rolls
soup

Daughter is in the hospital delivering our grandson. Wish them both well.
Have a great day.

Wednesday 3-23-11

Another good day today. Car shopping with our youngest, she got a big lesson on how bad driving will effect the cost of insurance, OUCH.

Food today
Spinach and eggs, with 1 sausage
Fish sandwich
Chicken and veggies

Warm up of 30 push-pull-dip-squat and sit ups
Then I gave the crossfit total a try. It went well considering how little I have lifted. Strict press 95lbs failed @ 105. Back squat 205. Deadlift 255 went well then I got greedy, I put on 50lbs to 305. It did not move at all. I dropped down but I had used it all up.
Total 555. Last time I hit 675, I really need to remember I am starting all over again, instead of thinking I am picking up where I left off. I just need to give all I can but being smart about my limits.

Tuesday 3-22-11

Today was a good day. I got in over 5 hours of yard work, which included taking down a few trees. Getting stronger every day.
Todays food was-
Oatmeal and berries
Chicken salad
Chicken Alfrado- Not going to count this as clean as it came from a bag.

I got in my usual warm up 30 each of push-pull-dips-squats and sit ups.
Then I did 30 minutes on the bike. 1-10 3 minutes each level. 8.71 miles

It is great to be able to work all day long without having to stop every half hour.
Have a super day.

Monday 3-21-11

I was gone all weekend, there was a memorial for a surfing friend who was killed by a drunk driver. Ellen was the most up beat, happy and giving person I have met in a long time. Her smile was so infectious, you could not help but be lifted up when you saw her. It is no wonder she was a cancer nurse and as you can imagine nurses are my favorite people on the planet.
On Saturday we held a Hawaiian paddle out in the surf spot below their house. It was my first burial, it was a very beautiful ceremony. It really helped to say good bye.
She would of been glad as everyone were hooting and hallering as they surfed in to the beach.

I know not workout related, but I believe very much health related to grieve and then move on with the job of life. I did paddle for quite a long time on Saturday, around 1 1/2 at first then 2 hours later. This is a big deal as last time I was in the surf I could only last for 10-15 minutes, so better and stronger everyday.

I will update more in a bit as I need to workout today.

Friday 3-18-11

Had a great day today. Up early to get in my workout, heavy squat day.
Warm up
30 push ups
30 pull ups assisted
30 dips
30squats 30 sit ups

WOD: 5x1 max overhead squats started @ 45-55-60-65-70
front squats started @ 70-90-115-135-155
back squat started @ 115-135-155-175-185

This is not too bad, considering. OHS were and are something I need to work on. Right side was hurting and left heel was lifting on the ohs, hope it gets better as my joints get better. Front squats were ok, need more core strength. Might of had a bit more on them. Back squats, I felt like I had quite a bit more on them. Figured I should leave a little in the tank for a while longer.

Then I spent the rest of the day helping a friend unload a container of new kayaks. It was good spending the day with a good friend. Now for the weekend, we have to say good bye to a friend. Unfortunately she was killed by a drunk driver the other week. Ellen was the most optimistic person I have ever met. Always a smile and kind word for everyone. It is going to be a very sad weekend.

I am not sure how much I will get in this weekend, but I will get something done.
Peace to all.

Thursday 3-17-11

Happy St. Patrick's day.

Today was alright, I overdid it a bit today. I got in 20 min of bike this morning, not positive, think it was around 7 miles. I forgot to write it down before I left this morning, It felt good for a morning warm up.
I then did 3 hours of yard work at our daughters, most of it was raking. She has a pretty big yard. I could feel it was starting to take its toll, but the ex son in law and I got it cleaned up. I felt tired but not whooped, until I had dinner then the stomach pain kicked in. My belly just locked up and turned into a great big hard ball. It looks like I will pass on doing another double today, max squats prob not good for the tummy.

Food was kinda messed up too today, as far as timing went.
Oatmeal, pb and berries
Apple and banana for snack
Early dinner: Roast beef, a small potato, onions, carrots and celery

I so want to hit another workout, but I know It will not do me any good. So I will move the squats to tomorrow morning, before I help a friend unload a shipping container of new kayaks.

I hope not too many of you overindulge, not that I ever did too much on St.Paddy's day. Have a great one.

Leftover pork chops.

Awesome day! Hope yours was too.

day 2

I had not planned to get to the gate today but I did. It added 1/4 mile up hill to my walk. H and I did it this morning and it really took it's toll on me. I had to sit down and rest once we got there. Not a bad thing, more is always better.
Funny how out of breath I got with just that little climb.
I hit it again this afternoon. I did not have to rest but I really felt it once I got back home. I probably went too fast.
So todays workouts, well walks were 1.25 miles times two. Still feel good hope it holds for a while.

Looking up

WOW
Funny how that sounds now. Good thing it was a quick slide down to the bottom, because it all looks up from here. I got home yesterday from the hospital, my eighth trip since finding out what was going on. The plan right now, has this as my last round of chemo.
I sure hope I can stay out of the hospital for something else. I am gonna try real hard. I so want for Helaine to stop having to worry about me, It truly takes it's toll on the ones you love.

I am going to write here as much as I can. I did not put much down while this has been going on. I am blessed with so many caring people around me while going through this. Every thought, prayer and good feeling came through loud and clear. If I ever had a down moment or got sad, one of my friends would say the exact thing to show me that life is sooo worth living it.

I will jot down what I did today for my workout. 2 one mile walks. These felt good as It was not raining so I could use light shoes. My winter boots weight a bit and take a good toll on my legs at first.
